The Alizarin Man is an abstract expressionist character I originally fully produced to be playable in a third person walking sim project. It's a vague self portrait, assembled from many sculpts that hang together with a kind of ethereal nervous system. The model is optimized for realtime gameplay and fully rigged for animation. This version of it is posed with a few companion sculptures for its appearance in the title 'Vex Mage' as an essentially decorative statue.
I textured this character in Substance Painter 3D using a personal style of shining color lights from all sorts of angles to catch details in the high poly sculpt, as well as of course some custom painted parts. I like doing most of my proper mark making in the sculpt rather than the texture. The sculpt and texture is fully asymmetrical.
These are all screenshots from in-engine in Unity, modified slightly from the character's appearance in 'Vex Mage'. I added some better lights to highlight areas since of course that kind of thing was heavily restricted for a title that had to run on mobile VR. All work for this character was conceptualized/designed and produced by me.
